In 2008, the Øya Festival will present many groovy Nighttime Øya concepts. Nighttime Øya refers to several parties and concerts taking place throughout Oslo during the festival, after the main festival area closes at 11 p.m. In cooperation with our good friends and partners we’ve booked some hot acts and DJs to keep the festival groove going into the night for as long as you can manage to stay on your feet. Today we’re releasing the first tidbits for this year’s Nighttime Øya events. A valid Øya wrist band will grant you a discount at each of these events/venues.
planB at Stratos Wednesday Aug. 6:
Boys Noize evening with Les Petit Pilous & Strip Steve
planB will, in cooperation with Øya, present four nights at Stratos. As a pretaste of the program we’ve put together we give you Wednesday – which is Boyz Noize Records night. BNR is Boyz Noise’s Berlin-based electro label and was created to serve as a platform for bringing new electro music out into the world. Our two faves from this label are both very young, French, and make hard electro music. The duo Les Petits Pilous and the youngster Strip Steve will join forces at Stratos to bring you the best of new club music, as well as show why Boyz Noize Records is one of the most happening electro labels these days. The Bordeaux boy Strip Steve has been a hot topic over the past few months, i.a. on the blog site Discobelle and the Parisian electro scene. All the talk has basically been about the EP ‘Skip School” – which is an amazing piece of craftsmanship that demonstrates Strip Steve’s ability to mix catchy techno with playful house. Strip Steve is touring Europe intensively, and it’s high time he paid Norway a visit, too.
The Nice-based duo Les Petits Pilous makes really hard electro. The songs are marked by hard synth riffs, funny vocal samples, and a steady bass drum that leaves you with no choice but to surrender to the rhythm. Just when you start to think that their songs can’t get any harder and more danceable, Les Petit Pilous take you one step further, into a state of techno euphoria. Lately, the guys have done remixes for i.a. Justice and Teenagers, and they’ve been praised by electro guru Thomas Von Party, who also took them along on his US tour. Wednesday night will surely be rather intense, but oh sweet Jesus is it gonna be fun! And the best part? The bill for three more planB nights at Stratos during the Øya Festival will soon be revealed.
Strip Steve
Les Petit Pilous

Blå Thursday Aug.7:
Pilooski (PL)
Blå and the alternative segments of Bergenfest – The Fix present Pilooski, the man responsible for Madcon’s super hit “Beggin’”. Pilooski released his first remix of the Franki Valli original on his own label, was hyped by nerds on the web, picked up by Warner, and then heard by Madcon. In addition to having released a bunch of illegal edits, he also constitutes one half of Discodeines and is a member of Paris-based Dirty Sound System.
Ticket info will be made available at a later point.
13th Floor Club at Garage Saturday Aug. 9:
The Urges (IE)
Primitive garage punk sound!!! The Urges are the hottest and coolest shit to come out of Dublin since Them featuring Van Morrison early in the sixties. The boys in The Urges came crawling out of their den in 2004 and have since then kicked some serious ass with their stripped-down-psychedelic-primal-zombie garage punk, with loads of fuzztone guitars and organs. With some incredibly rough and wicked songs and a distinct sound inspired by sixties punk acts like The Electric Prunes, The 13th Floor Elevators, Music Machine, The Seeds, and The Pretty Things, The Urges have made a strong name for themselves in underground circles. They’ve played with just about everything from heroes like Billy Childish, The Buzzcocks, and Paul Weller to indie bands like The Strokes and Babyshambles. Late November last year they also played support for The Sonics at their first reunion gig, which took place at the Cavestomp Festival in New York. Their debut album, ‘Psych Ward’, which came out earlier this year, is quite simply awesome and a ” psyched-out zombie rocker complete with all the horror show ingredients: the devilishly swirling Farfisa organ, the bendy guitar twangs and a singer who howls like a teenage werewolf at a beach party”, as The Irish Times so eloquently put it. So get down to the 13th Floor Club to shake it loose with you new caveman faves The Urges after The Sonics gig in the Medieval Park has come to a close.
In Fuzz We Trust! The 13th Floor DJs will make sure you enjoy yourself to the max with garage, punk, and surf before and after the gig.
Ticket info will be made available at a later point.
Øya:Sunkissed at Fabrikken Aug. 7-9:
Booka Shade (DE)
Claude Von Stroke (US)
Iconoclastic w/Deadswan, Chris Lynch, Of Norway (N)
The first release of this year’s ØYA:SUNKISSED acts! ØYA:SUNKISSED has very quickly become the biggest club event of the year in Norway. On three separate nights during the Øya Festival, Sunkissed will present a handful the world’s biggest club acts, as well as names we believe deserve more attention. This time around we’re proud to present the following acts for Fabrikken August 7-9, 2008:
BOOKA SHADE [DE / live] – The Sun & The Neon Lights Tour
CLAUDE VonSTROKE [DirtyBird / US]
ICONOCLASTIC w/DEADSWAN, CHRIS LYNCH, OF NORWAY [N / live]
About the artists:
BOOKA SHADE (DE)
It’s a great pleasure that our friends in Booka Shade are finally coming back to Sunkissed. The last time they played, it became one helluva an evening, and according to Booka Shade themselves, it was one of the best gigs they played in all of 2005. Now they’ve got a new album up their sleeve and are ready to go on tour, and since their last visit, they’ve only continued their meteoric journey towards the top.
In 2005, Booka Shade delivered two club classics, “Mandarine Girl” and “Body Language” (w/M.A.N.D.Y.). The latter was proclaimed “The Ibiza Track of the Season” in 2005, both tracks got heavy rotation worldwide, and the band played support for both Röyksopp, Mylo, and Depeche Mode. Their second album, ‘Movements’, which also included three new club hits: “In White Rooms”, “Darko”, and “Night Falls”. These hits consolidated their position as one of the world’s leading electronic club acts.
On their third album (which will be out May 26), Booka Shade deliver material that leans just as much toward day as night. The club tracks are still present, especially the remix editions on the singles to come, but this is also a vocal-based album with songs that are easy on the ears both on radio and on your home stereo. What remains constant, however, are the solid production and melodies that’ll make your hairs stand on end. With ‘The Sun & The Neon Lights’, Booka Shade are ready for a breakthrough also beyond the club scene. We’re sure that Booka Shade won’t hold back on the energy at Sunkissed, and we’re also sure that this will be our last chance to see them perform on a stage this small and intimate.
CLAUDE VON STROKE (US)
The Career of Barclay Crenshaw, a.k.a. Claude VonStroke, has skyrocketed since he released his first 12-inches, “Deep Throat” and “Seven Deadly Strokes”, in 2005. The second single, “The Whistler” / “Who’s Afraid of Detroit”, became international club hits, and the man himself, Richie Hawtin, declared “Who’s Afraid of Detroit” the best song of 2006! The same year, Barclay followed up with the critically acclaimed album “Beware of the Bird”, and remixed everything from The Rapture to Kevin Saunderson. In addition, Barclay also runs the reputable record company DirtyBird, on which most of his catalogue has been released, as well as the minimal and techno label Mothership (with acts like Samim, Italoboyz, Todd Bodine, and P. Toile). This summer, his second album will be out, and by the looks of it, the first single, “Ground Hog Day”, is becoming a huge hit at Ibiza and on the entire club scene across the globe. As a DJ, Barclay is varied and energetic, and never predictable. Some of the humor and the snap found with DirtyBird (just look at the logo…) is reflected in Mr. VonStroke’s selection of music. The result is right up Sunkissed’s alley: high-paced, deep, and slightly loco.
ICONOCLASTIC w/DEADSWAN, CHRIS LYNCH, and OF NORWAY [live]
Iconoclastic recently received the Oslo Award in the Best Club category. Well-earned, we say! Deadswan and Chris Lynch have long been running one of Oslo’s most colorful and exciting club concepts. They currently reside at Oslo’s undoubtedly hottest club, The Villa. This time around, Iconoclastic will get an entire room at their disposal during ØYA:SUNKISSED at Fabrikken. In addition to Iconoclastic’s regular DJS, Chris Lynch will join forces with Lil’ Wolf and Oslo’s new house and techno dream team Of Norway. With only a few releases, remixes, and one very wicked DiskJokke remix, Of Norway have definitely made a name for themselves during the past year. We expect a lot from these guys, and we can’t wait to see them make the crowd go wild at Fabrikken once again.
Ticket info will be made available at a later point.
John Dee Wednesday Aug. 6:
Dengue Fever (US)
We’d like to point out and emphasize that we’re not talking about the disease. Dengue Fever is a rock band inspired by something as a rare as sixties pop from Cambodia! The Asian sound is enhanced by the fact that most of the lyrics are sung in Khmer, so put all prejudices aside and let yourself be carried away by psychedelic pop and euphoric moods. The album ‘Venus on Earth’ is out now.
Tickets NOK 180 (NOK 150 w/Øya wrist band) + tax NOK 20. 18 year age limit.
Rockefeller Friday Aug. 8:
The Notwist (DE)
The Notwist have over the past few years established themselves as one of the most exciting acts in their native country of Germany. They started out as a hardcore band, but have grown steadily more difficult to assign a particular genre label to. They move between guitar-driven pop and rock, as well as modern electronica, and they’re inspired by both jazz and other experimental music genres. The guys in Notwist have undoubtedly found their own unique style, and took the world by storm with the critically acclaimed album ‘Neon Golden’ a few years back. The album ‘The Devil, You and Me’ will be out in May.
Tickets NOK 250 (NOK 200 w/Øya wrist band) + tax NOK 25. 18 year age limit.
Rockefeller/John Dee begin ticket sales on Saturday Apr. 19, 10 a.m.
